whats better for you fwd/4WD/RWD

not pin pointing it to one make model of car out there just your driving experince with these type of cars so your opinions on fwd / 4wd / rwd

fwd can be as much fun as rwd in the right car but can take alot of time to master

4 wd love the feeling of the grip thats there , alot of fun but lacks the fun of rwd

rwd the most easly avalabile fun but again takes alot of time to master

i had a rwd once in the form of an XR4i, sodding nightmare in the wet and snow, would swop ends at the drop of a hat lol, so for me i prefer 4WD with power now, like you said the grip is amazing,you can boot it on corners and not worry about loosing the back too much

I'm a bit old fashioned and grew up with RWD and I love em.

but now (ford wise) I find myself landed with all FWD, apart from the Escos of course.

it depends.

ive driven rwd saffs(350 bhp at most) and although nice i didnt get to give it what id like. had a bmw 325 that was fine unless icy.
fwd.have the focus at the mo and have had loads.most of them fuck me off.id rather deal with oversteer than understeer on a wet/icy road.i lose all confidence when its sliding front on. that said my mi-16 205 was one of the most fun cars ive ever had.a real giggle if driven right.

but tbh i loved my saff and pulsar. the saff was better for me,still arse end happy but a handful if you get it wrong.when the front grabs you ARE going where its pointing the pulsar gave me loads of confidence and was a weapon on the back roads.

i favour probaly 4wd for me then rwd and fwd last

2wd all out fun.

Fwd for everyday driving.

I would never have a fwd car, as on UK roads it is just a waste of time. We have a Mazda 3 "thing" in the company car pool, and it is only around 103bhp and although it is okay to drive in the dry, in the wet it just sets the traction control off ALL the time - boring and hateful thing.

Think i like Fwd for most driving, dont have the confidence to do much with the M3, and never really driven the escort so not sure on 4x4.
The nova started off with about 160hp n/a and the was great on the road with bilstein shocks and 16v specific springs nice and predictable, would push on in the corners but was alot better once the anti roll bar was removed!.
Now driven it with around 300hp and its nuts, corners are a no go and in straight line with the quaiffe it pulls across both lanes of the road

prefer 4wd for all round grip. not a fan of rwd as i dont have enough experience with it to find it fun to drive a twitchy rwd car in the wet

so youve done the classic FWD mistake of putting too much power in it

I dont think anyone would argue that point. For pure acceleration in the dry, Power for power a RWD will always be better, but for all of us in the real world you cant beat a sorted 4x4. Ok Escorts might have been well ant truly eclipsed by the modern Scub or Evo, but still they are much better than FWD or RWD.
Having said that in the early 1990's I applied for and got a dispensation form the RAC MSA, the guy at the time was a Mr Newsom. I Built aClubmans GP B 1.8 Astra's Turbo Rally car, which finally ended upi with 350 BHP witha 40mm restrictor and alas only 300 with a 34 mm Restrictor, however it was a monster. Extra wide track, with Quaife LSD, dog box, Pro flex suspension. It was a hard car to drive with Left Foot Braking, trailing throttle over steer having to be mastered but still a very quick car.
You only have to remember my IDOL: MR Dave Metcalfe AKA " The Giant Killer". He could consistently beat most of the GP A Cosworths, BMW's , Lancia's etc in a 1.6 Nova. He was king, but alas no longer with us.
So 4x4 by far, followed by FWD and or RWD.
Thats IMO anyway.

RWD is fun but can catch you out sometimes
FWD last horrible to drive in except on a dry day, the wifes ST has nearly killed me twice the damn thing can't get the power down.
