when you turn the key to position 2 and the red warning lamps are on in the dash (before you turn to crank) do you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds? if not, could be a dry joint in the fusebox.

Thank fcuk for ugly women all the boilers bags and trolls, just so they could get a shag they invented alcohol.

On RS Turbo's this is caused by the starter motor being so close to the exhaust it melts the starter and eventually the wiring turns brittle. Obviously different on a Cossie, but i would try a new starter

Coincidentally I have a 4x4 starter for sale If your close you can try it and if it works buy it

i had a very similar problem on my last one and it was the fuse box,it started to misfire and then would cut out,if you left it half an hour it would start and run fine again, turned out to be a dodgy joint which was getting hot expanding, cutting the supply to the pump, then when it cooled down again it made contact and all was well,id have a look and see if yours is the same, the joint in the fuse box has probably bubbled/melted
