  • What would my old engine be worth.

My old 7.1 CR short studded Mike Taylor engine ( which I dont own now) is still and has sat in a shell in Scotland for 3 years through the snow, ice & rain . With the vents in the bonnet its not exactly water tight. So what would it be worth having never been turned over either.

200 block, 2nd grind on the crank. 4x4 head on is last skim & 7tho removed last time it was done. Engine done well over 50 events national status and 40k on the road as a road car.

Not going to say as its not fair to the seller, but I wont say no.
Actually who give a shit if its fair, the guy should be done for Cosworth Abuse. That was my old car and I am gobsmacked at its condition. It should have been stored under cover. The more I think about it hte worse I feel. I went with my trailer to buy it. Full intention of walking away with my old baby. Its my name on the log book FJ Autos. It was so bad I went home with an empty trailer.
I suppose it will be bought to break up for parts.
I would consider buying my old Q plate logbook back if it came up, but thats all.

Yes, the shell looks good form the outside, but is far from it sills down. It does need a re-shell. I just wonder if it is financially viable.
The road to the farm is bad enough for my Landrover, I recon he towed it up the lane, as the exhaust is flattened and a shock looks like it has burst. All in all it could have been looked after a lot better.
The fuel cap has been off for years with a pukka GP A Audi fuel pump in there.
The doors have no crash bars in them I lightened them because it had a cage. The bonnet has pins not a latch. The dash is cut in 4 places for the cage. The carpet has been left wet for god knows how long.To make it half decent he will have to re-shell it into a rally car. .
Ah well its not my problem, I do still feel bad about it though.

Yes they were dirty, the roof if as rally car should be, no lining, so its been dripping condensation all over everything and the car has been full of water. But yes they are salvageable.

No, he is a nice guy, I have know of him for a few years. he isnt a Scum bag or Chave or anything like that. He just didn't look after the car the way I think he should have done. Were not mates or anything but he has a good reputation in the area and he has described the car fairly. He does say it needs a re shell and it wont start and needs to be trailered away. Its a rally car so you dont get much in the way of comfort so its the engine, box and running gear that would be worth anything. Its just a question of how long they have stood and for how much they are worth££.
I recon any second hand car with engine and box etc will fetch over 3k. He has rightfully put a reserve of £X I dont blame him for that. He might even re-shell the car get it running MOT etc then sell it. The problem with that is there are some good club spec GP A cars for sale in the 10-12k bracket so is it worth it. Its a Q plate as well, so unless you are me its worthless.

Please dont call him or insinuate he is scum , as I know he is not. Just not a good Cosworth Owner

No worries mate, he has done the right thing just put it on EBAY and see what happens. Worst that can happen is when you go to collect it you say no, likeI did when I went with the trailer to buy it back
