Blacky is the man to ask about transits, he was a ford transit tech.

          thats handy to know.

Our 125ps 350 MWB tipper is a fucker to start on cold mornings, give it plenty of glow plug and it turns over, but just lacks that little bit more to start it. Its had a new battery and when it does eventualy start it smokes like fuck for about 10 seconds, then it clears and goes fine. The van goes like fook when you get it going lol and dosnt miss a beat, is this glow plugs or would there be something else causing the problem?

thats what I was thinking, but our sprinter 211 CDI had the same sort of problem and it turned out to be a injector.... we had already replaced the glow plugs

if its had glow plugs then the timing chain has probably stretched (common fault) if it just cranks & cranks get a chain & tensioner's fitted

also the glow plugs aren't used for starting as the motors are direct injection they are used for emission's when the motor is running cold

they are only used for starting when the coolant temp is below -6 deg C

just a word of warning never turn the motors over anti clockwise as they cause the chain tensioner's to fuck up & the chain will jump causing engine damage

hope that clears a few issues up

some good info there lads, thank you very much, prob just saved us a fortune on new glow plugs.... I always had my suspicion with the transit glow plugs as the light hardly stays on for long where as on our machines they stay on for five seconds.
