  • water temp reading high? *update*

in my escort my temp gauge is reading high, it sits on the N on normal, the first fan kicks in at the bottom of the red and i have'nt left it long enough for the them both to kick in

what will it be a temp sender or the ford clocks no been accurate?

Both fans should operate ALL the time, it is just they are two SPEED.

They come on half speed at 93°C and full speed at 99°C. So it is normal for the engine to operate at this temp. I prefer the way the Sierras operate, which is single stage, so just change the fan switch for a Sierra one and you will find the fans then come on at full speed at 93°C, which keeps the temps lower .

Nordschleife, there's only two barriers to worry about - the ones on the left and the ones on the right .

ok thanks i will check both fans are working and change my rad sensor to a sierra type.
i have a old saph rad sensor but it says 87* and 77* will that mean it cuts in at 87 and off at 77?

do i just use 2 wires from my plug and do away with 2?

what about the gauge reading high mike?

mine used to do this and traced it to the head gasket weeping slightly, since its been changed its been perfect and very rarely rises above N on the gauge

if this was the case the fans would be kicking before they do? the needle is on the bottom of the red before they work.
even if it was the headgasket the fans would still kick in at the bottom of the red?

also just had it mapped at harveys jimbo said the running temp was fine

            Connect the wires together .

Kicks in at 93 and turns off at 87 - no idea what the 77 refers to.

If the fans are not going to the high speed stage - how is it too high - seems normal to me?

If it is still reading the same after the fan switch mod, then you may have gasket issues as mentioned.

i thought 2 wires are for slow speed and 2 are for high speed?
if i join the 2 slow speed wires together will they not keep the fans running on slow speed?

i've swapped my temp sensor from my 3dr to my escort to see if it was that what was giving a high reading.
also put a new rad sensor in it so the fans come in at 92* and off at 87* like a saph

its still reading higher than my 3dr. my 3dr sits between the M and A
the escort is sitting on the bottom of the O on normal, it does'nt move from there even if i put my foot down.
when its stood still for a few minutes the temp gauge goes to the top of the N then the fans kick in and after another few minutes they knock off again and it returns to the bottom of the O

everything seems ok apart from the gauge reading higher than my 3dr. could it be the gaue its self?

i also have added another wire to the temp sensor but when i use it on a gauge my normal temp gauge goes down to where my 3dr gauge sits
can you use 2 gauges from 1 sensor?

Two are earth, so connect them in pairs .

Ignore where the needle sits - as long as it is in the NORM, it is FINE . If you want an accurate reading, fit a proper gauge .

thats what i'm going to do..
whats the best way to do it?
should i use the standard temp sensor for my new gauge and disconnect the wire for my ford clocks? or does the ecu need info from it?

You use the sensor that comes with the gauge NOT the Ford one....... The ECU gets it's water temp signal from the blue sensor under the inlet manifold at the back of the engine.
