How would you jack a car up while in the pit as you are missing the floor directly under the car? Yours looks good

Thats spot on my the looks of it.
How deep is the Pit???? I was thinking about one and want to stand up, so that would mean a minimum of 5ft deep with the car 18 inches off the ground would give 6.5 ft of head room??
                What are the other dimensions W x L ????

That's almost useful I'm assuming some form of scissor jack across the width of the pit? Like they use for MOT's. Would concrete be strong enough for that?

                    Fletch,
you put a beam across the pit and stand a bottle jack in the middle under the diff or front X member. Or place the beam under the jacking points and use 2 bottle jacks. Its not hard to mod an RSJ so it sits inside the pit with an ultra strong plate that straddles the top of the pit by about 3 to 4 inches. You just slide it to the front or the back of the pit.
Its what I am thinking of doing. I just need some ideas of depth and what experience those who have one have about depth. It could be all to easy to make it too shallow in order to make digging it out easy and cock it up.

2 bottles jacks, How would you secure them as to not fall over?

Bottle jack as the same as if there were on the floor just in the centre of the RSJ/beam ( I was thinking of just one jack ), then axle stands. Don't forget the wheels are sitting above the concreet floor and the original jacking points are also above concrete. The pit is narrower than the track of the car so the sills are still well over the original concrete floor. Once the stands are in place remove the bottle jack from under the diff or the front x member and slide the beam out of the way to work on the car.

Just run a length of angle iron on both sides of the pit where you locate the boards/covering and this will aid running the scissor jack or whatever you make up for a lifting beam etc and stop the concrete chipping.
Just size in when building the pit.

Looking at the picture of the pit, I think that could be the beams the OP is using. There standing on edge at tho top end of the pit. Quite wide and stable.
Lets hope he comes back on with some more info abot the pit.
