problem with long studs

  • problem with long studs

    fitted in the long studs today only 6 and 4 arp.my question is as my block has been decked and the stud is pretruding the top of the block causing the gasket not to fit properly any ideas.ive tought of opening the holes in the gasket slightly but not sure if its a good idea or not ive included a pic

    Well I know what I would do and thats shorten the stud by the corresponding amount that the block has been decked. It wont effect the strength as you will still have the same amount of thread contact, all your doing is moving the stud down so the collar is flat with the block face.
    Either take them to a machine shop or use a bench grinder to whittle the end down. Don't try and hack saw them. Looks like you only need 1/2 to 1mm.

    A good tip is to screw a nut on before you grind so when you unscrew the nut afterwards it automatically cleans the threads

      Thought it was the collors not the stud length that was the problem as the recess they sit in will be smaller if it's been decked. Needs that recess made deeper by looks of it

        Will say the same, you have to get a machine shop to re drill the recess, to get the collors sit lower in block

          damn thats not good now its all built....what if i was to turn a mm from the bottom of the collar on a lathe wouldnt have thought it would weaken them ??

                Would have thought it would be less than a mm or your going to need the pistons done aswell

                    yeah its less than a mm im using a 4 layer mountune gasket aswell so thats around 1.6mm

                      It depends what pistons, rods and crank ho is used. Of course he have to check how high the pistons are going

                            the holes need to go deeper or you could take a bit off the top of the coller save taking the pistons and crank out
