  • running 2 pumps on a escort??

i have 2 pumps on my escort one inside the tank feeding a swirl pot and an external pump feeding the rails.
my external pump is working fine but my in tank pump is'nt getting any power to it so its not working.
i've ran a live wire to the plug behind the rear bumper and the pump works from doing that so there's problem from that plug to the pump, so the problem must be with the wire from the ecu to the boot area
could my external pump pull fuel from the tank without the internal pump working?
because i never touched any wiring near the ecu area and its just been mapped by harvey @ scs and he rewired the trigger wire from the ecu and used the ignition live instead.

Had a similar problem with a 3 pump set up........ and yes the external pump can pull fuel without the aid of the in-tank pump but not without potential expensive problems

Follow the live back and make sure that there is not a faulty alarm immobiliser cut into the circuit because that is what caused my problem.......... the immobiliser had died in the open circuit position

when i got my car back my external pump was making funny noises as though it was struggling.
could this need mapping again if its been mapped on one pump?

Your external pump is probably labouring as it isn't getting a good feed of fuel to work with.......... and if it anything like the situation i had your extrnal pump is probably getting hotter than it's supposed to due to working extra hard.
My swirl pot was getting very hot due to fuel getting heated in the over-worked pump......... even the fuel reg was getting hot to touch
Don't give the car any beans until you get the problem sorted

I already have and Harvey will have when he was mapping it but everything is still ok.
But will it be ok to give it some when both pumps are working? Or will it need mapping/checking again?

Best thing to do is speak to Harvey and see what he says

Could be the fuel pump relay, they often pack up .

Have you tried the fuel cut off in the passenger footwell, this may have triggered.

What are the 8 wires for on the engine loom plug?

i have 2 relay's near the engine loom plug(not the engine loom side) if i unplug 1 the in tank pump works
i also have 1 relay built in the engine

my external pump is feed from the engine loom which works ok.
the internal pump is feed from one of the 2 relays near the plug. if i unplug the other relay the internal pump will work. what would cause this?
