Canon DSLR

Very much aware this is a question for a photography forum but I am looking to purchase a Canon DSLR 550D Camera (18 - 55mm lens). Primarily to be used for car pictures at some of the shows this year & of my own car.
Can anyone recommend this camera for quality & ease of use?
What do any of you use?

I have a Canon EOS500D with a EF-S 18 - 200 IS lens and IMO its great camera.

A couple of the camera using a point and shoot and the other pictures are from the Canon.





Zoom is good this shot was taken from about 40m away.



And ok for macro as well. A wee fly shittin' on the roof of the car....

Brilliant - did you buy the lens seperate?
Do you find it quite bulky to carry around & is it relatively easy to use?

I have a canon 400d and that is fantastic so what your after will be spot on mate.

The camera and lens were a package.

I suppose it will be bigger than a normal lens when carrying it about but it gives me more options then just a normal lens.

It is probably too good for me but it's easy to use and thats suits me just fine.

I've had Canon DSLR's since the first D30 and you can't go wrong with that camera. The only thing I would advise is to get a speedlite flash with it, as the on-board flash sucks big time. Even if you get the cheap 320EX it will make a massive difference compared to the on-camera flash.
You might think you don't need flash but at car shows it can help a great deal with shadows/backlight and as fill-flash.

Thanks guys, the quality of the pictures these things can do is unreal - currently using a Sony 7.2 megapixel so its quite a jump - some friends have suggested a "bridge" camera but I'm super impressed with the 550D...

i sold a 7d not long ago, was great, 1500 quid kit

will have a 5d mark ii soon if anyones interested in it

I have the 350 and it's great all I will say is get some better lenses for it as it will come alive I have got 2 canon lenses for it and they are the expensive bits

it ill take no shots, i dont know how to use them cameras but i know how to sell em
