  • 5/50 or 10/60 oil ?

    Hi guys

I was always told to use 5/50 but today in burtons I was told to put in 10/60.
I have the cosworth handbook and that says use 5/50.
    It's a st bog standard
What do other people use and what's the benfits.

    Cheers

I use Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 15/50 mate, nothing else, never had a problem!

Make it 15/50 whatever you use though
          M3 CSL is here!

Odd you've said Mobile 1, as some poeple swear by it, whilst others won't touch it.. I tried it in my xr2 turbo for 1 oil change (that had a rebuilt 1.8 zvh in) and IMO it made it more noisey in the top end - haven't used it since!

This is not a fully synthetic and I would not use this, as the molecules unwind when it gets hot and so 1. It expands and therefore blows out the breather if you fill it up to the top level (so appears that you are "using" and excessive amount). 2. 10w60 is too thick for high powered Cosworth engines - you shouldn't use anything higher than a 50.

I only use Silkolene Pro S 10w50 in my own car - it is the best oil out there IMO. A 5w oil is of too thin a vicosity in our climate.
