Do they really handle that badly on 18's or should you limit yourself to 17" wheels if your aiming for alot of trackdays and the best handling you can get away with

Night and day between them IMHO.

Handle even better on 15s, but so limited on brakes

heard lots of people slag the ride and handling of the 18's on the saffs Kelv.

only ever had 17" wheels on my saffs and had no complaints really.

I had 17's on mine and the front end felt loose at high speed. Never knew why and I changed everything I could... Was fine on the standard wheels. For track I wouldn't go bigger than 16's

i havnt noticed any difference between 17s or 18s but my mate said he did in his, but his was 2wd and mines 4wd

yes just road use , never read the thread right

they drive well on the road but would,nt fancy them on a track car , but then again depends what brakes you,ve got as thats why i have 18,s on mine to clear the brakes

To be honest its more the tyre size than the wheel size as obviously the bigger the side wall the more flex in the tyre and the wider the tyre the more thread on the road. So a 205/40 tyre would not be as good as a 205/50 or 225/40 imo, I maybe wrong tho

In simple terms Kelv, there crap.

When mine was on 17's (konis/ahmed springs) it was awesome, when i went to 18's & coilovers i ruined a nice road car. I couldn't get the car right at all at Germany in April & finally got it to turn when i turned them to soft, even change dthe rear springs to a softer compound. It now drives alot nicer but do prefer the 17's.

You drove it in anger on the 18's remember.

It's nice that you have experienced both to give an genuine opinion.

The one I'm showing interest in is on Koni's, Ahmed springs, 3dr hubs, 330mm AP's etc etc...
Do 6 degree rear beams still have a big benefit on RWD cars?

My theory on wheels was more because I have 2 sets of RL7's which would swap easily between Focus and Saph, so could have been an ideal thing to do.


At this stage tho, it is more just doing research and asking questions of what to do incase the car does come to be a purchase
