  • P8 fault codes

I've got a genuine ford fault code reader to help someone out with a running issue, but dont have access to a workshop manual.

Could someone help out and pop up a list of fault codes please.

    Cheers.

i think p8 and l8 have the same

    Ford Sierra/Escort Cosworth IAW045 and IAW048 ECU's
Connector WiringElectronicsEPROM'sError CodesInjector InfoMAP SensorsSensor SequenceWastegate ControlWater InjectionTemp sensors------------------
    Error codes for IAW045.01 (L1), IAW045.06 (L6), IAW048.01 (L8 green) and IAW048.02 (L8 red)
To enable the test mode the pin number 8 of the ECU connector has to be grounded (also present in the service connector). The codes can be seen on the engine warning light. The start of the test is indicated be a series of short on/off pulses. After a pause, the error code is indicated by on/off pulses each having a duration of one second. Each code is made up of two figures separated by a pause. These two figures identify error code (see below). After another pause, the end of the code is indicated by a series of short on/off pulses. The ECU can memorize several codes, which will be shown with the same sequence as before, one after the other. The test will end if the ignition is turned off, consequently, all error codes will be erased.L1 and L6:
    1+1 - Crankshaft RPM / TDC sensor
    1+2 - Distributor phase sensor
    1+3 - RPM / Distributor phase sequence
2+1 - Inlet air temperature sensor shorted
2+2 - Air temperature sensor open
2+3 - Water (coolant) temperature sensor shorted
3+1 - Water temperature sensor open
3+2 - Manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor shorted
3+3 - Manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor open

    L8: 1+1 - Crankshaft RPM / TDC sensor
    1+2 - Distributor phase sensor
1+3 - Ignition timing signal (ECU internal)
2+1 - Inlet air temperature sensor
    2+2 - Knock sensor
2+3 - Water (coolant) temperature sensor
    3+1 - Heated O2 sensor (lambda)
    3+2 - MAP sensor
    3+3 - Throttle position sensor

      Be warned !

If you have an non original chip fitted, it is 99% most likely the standard fault codes will NOT output on the ecu using a code reader.

If your car has pectel comms it most definitely wont work and you will need a pectel monitor or equivelant to get the diagnostic information out.

Simon, can you tell me what mods have to be done to p8 to read data stream whit collins monitor?

Sorry, I cant do that at this moment in time as I have never modified the P8 hardware myself to enable comms.

However, I do need to do this very soon as I have just got hold of a standard P8 myself for my live mapping project so will need to suss it out but this may take me a few days.
