I personally dont like DTA as its user interface is not very friendly at all !

However, the ecu type will not prevent you making power !

Are you sure you dont have other issues such as any of the following ...

        boost control
        limit of turbo
        air restriction
        exhaust restriction
        limit of injectors
        not using the software correctly

Dont mean to be rude if it sounds like I am

Are you controlling boost with the ecu ?

Ideally, we need more information on how you have set this up and the components you have used such as injectors...etc...

A friend of mine had DTA on his Escos. Made 450 bhp. He is now running Link (ViPec) instead
Another friend has it on his 500bhp merc.

Not the most user friendly I'll admit.

I have bd 16 inlet and exhaust cams, ported cylinder head, turbonetics t04b turbo, Siemens 660 injectors, cp standard size pistons, standard rods, standard intercooler, and dta s60 ecu.
            That`s basically it

Could it be that I have to advance more the ignition, at the moment the turbo is giving 1.6 bar of boost and the ignition is 28 degrees should I advance it more?

                28degrees where?

With respect, If you are asking questions about advancing ignition then you are not the right person to be mapping your car at this power level. !!

Advancing ignition does bring more power but increases the chance of engine damage but you can only do this under load with proper detonation monitoring equipment.

The actual ignition value needed for a particular boost level is not something that is 100% predictable as it also changes with RPM hence the need for live mapping for all engines to get the best.

I am not a tuning expert but the 28 degrees you mention is way too much under big boost load and high rpm for standard compression but is more suitable at lower RPM's and lower boost.
If you are running this much advance at high boost...DONT !!!!!!
It is very easy to destroy an engine in seconds with bad ignition mapping !!

Could you do a screen shot of the fuel and ignition maps for us ?

I´m not a tuner, but think that you should start by fitting a bigger IC
