  • Why have you got a RS car.

Has it just been an itch you have had to scratch or something else?

Never really understood why i'm into RS cars , my dad has never had rs cars or even many Ford cars.

We used to go out quite a lot in my Grandads mk.1 escort but thats all i can remember as why i'm into Fords etc...

Since passing my test back in '88, i got a mk.2 escort pop and from then on i have had Ford RS cars and bar one car, escort xr3i convertable mk.5 that was not a Ford RS,i have never been without one.

i have always had runaround diesel cars aswell as RS cars but always had a RS to do my Sunday driving round.

just looking at the thread about the old car pics at the shows brought memories back as to why i went to the shows that long ago, think its been from 1990 onwards.

Did not think i would still be with Ford RS cars for over 20 years.

i got in to RS cars from when i was about 15 , used to runabout with my pals who could drive and all had RS,s

thats when i started going to the damaged car auctions with them which got me interested in cars and they all ran about in RS cars , but i had to wait another 3 years till i was 18 till i could insure one so bought one and lost count of how many i,ve owned since then

think if there something your brought up with so you,ll always go back to them

i was lucky enough to have a RS2000 mk11 at 18. always had RS's since and i can't ever see me being without 1. iv'e had my 500 for 21 yrs now it's part of the family. i think they are without doubt the most affordable performance car.

My Brother got a 1.6 Escort, which I bought off him as a first car, which was written off within 1 month my Dad lent me the money for another Escort 1.6 when my brother upgraded to an RS Turbo. I saw one I liked and had to have it, so I got it. I changed to a Fiat Punto GT, which was a pile of shyte and then onto a Renault 5 GT Turbo which I loved. My brother bought a Saph Cossie, which yet again I really liked and got one a few months later.

As I'm the youngest of 3 sons and never really been allowed to follow my own path (Have no idea what I wanted, so always listened to my family. for example I wanted to do car mechanics at college, but my Dad talked me into doing a computer course, my brother gets a new toy and talks me into wanting one the same, even now I want a bike as his talked me into it )

My ex had a 3dr Cossie, which she only bought as I was getting a lot of attention in my Saph. I told her I would buy it when she wants to sell and I was told I would never be able to afford it.

I wanted an Escort Cosworth as an ex girlfriend wanted one and was looking to buy one, but never did. I liked them, but saw them out of my league due to prices. I said to her I wanted one, which she laughed at as I had no job, money, etc and told her I would have one in 12 months. It took me 18 months and I got my Esc Cos.

Basically I copy people most the time. I've been brought up without buying things due to lack of money, so normally I see something someone else has and want one myself. My brother got into RS's and I copied him. I don't do shopping so have never really worked out who or what I wanted in life!

About the time i passed my test the escort cosworth came out and it was just so outrageous i was hooked. It was from another planet. Also i remember a few S1's burning up the streets as a teenager and knew that was going to be my first step on the ladder. Always stuck with them since as nothing else floats my boat.

My Dad was a "Ford Man" being a mechanic and had everything from a Ford Escort van to a Sierra P100 and Granada Scorpio.
Got offered a MK1 Mex and turned it down as I really wanted a MK3 Cortina 2000E. I got one in the end when I was 16 and had it painted black...................looked sooo cool!!
And from there I had Mk1 Escorts Mex and RS2000, Mk2 Mex and 2 RS2000s, skipped the MK3/ 4 as they just weren't my "cup-of-tea". Sold my RS2000 for my 1st Saph Cossie (white) and had a few other Fords in between. Then eventually bought my Crystal Blue Saph and finally my Escos.

                        Fords.........................you just gotta love 'em!!

Started with mk2 escorts at 17 then on to RS 2000 at 20
so more or less 27 years.Reason in the 80's you had to
have a escort and the bug bit.

I've been into them since a very young age,a guy who use to visit my neighbour had a moonstone 3 door, can remember anytime it pulled up outside i would go out and stare at it for ages must have been about 9 or 10 at the time

Also went with my mum and dad to buy a new fiesta ghia out of Wylies in Glasgow ,and there was a brand new polaris grey escos in the showroom the guy opened the door and let me sit in it,ever since then i knew i wanted an escort cossie

Me and a mate then halfed for a saph cos 4x4 when we were 15,thats when the slippery slope of cosworth ownership began
