  • Gearstick vibration/rattle

Have got some gear stick vibration/rattle which starts at approx 3000rpm......which is really annoying! so im trying to track down the source of the prob.
When the flywheel and clutch were off i had them balanced to race spec so i wouldnt have these probs.
The car has a newish mongoose exhaust which when i refitted it when rebuilding car i thought it didnt fit very well and was quite stressed on its mountings. Could this cause the vibration?
Also if im being very fussy the gearbox has a very very slight whine which is noticeable at very low speeds.....could the box be causing vibration?
    Anyone got any ideas??

the exhausts sometimes touch either the gearbox or body on the down pipe its a git to get perfect as its so close to either points the way i did mine is loosend off the 3 bolt on turbo downpipe part and the first exh clamp and got 2 bits of wood each side of exhaust by the gearbox/and body so it wasnt touching eitherside then retightend the 3 bolts and clamp then removed the 2 bits of wood i used to space it another possabilitys is gearstick bushes
gearboxs on these arent the best especially when running bigger bhp/torque the layshaft bearing starts to whine depend how load is if its only very slight id leave it but it could be the spigot bearing on the spline by flywheel that causes the layshaft bearing to wear

I had checked exhaust clearance on gearbox and bulkhead the other day and looked fine.
I have also renewed the cradle bushes and am using a quick shift knuckle with standard gearstick.
        Maybe its the gearbox??

if youve fitted poly bushes to the cradle then that will be the cause, had same problem with mine and removed them

Yeah have fitted poly bushes but they are flo flex ones which are quite soft. It doesnt explain the source of vibration tho?

As Nick said, illiminate the bushes first beofre new gearbox.

The B&M's always rattled, but you could do a little mod to shut them up!

was I'm stumped, not oi I asked you a question!!!

i used p/flex but they made it vibrate like mad at higher revs,if you had your hand on the gearknob it was like getting an electric shock lol
