Well, I guess it is time to introduce myself on here. I am one of the Escort Cosworth owners in the USA (Seattle). I have an early 94 big turbo car that I bought from a private party here on the west coast a little over a year ago.

I have loved these cars forever, I blame my father for taking me to all the local SCCA rallies, and then we were lucky enough to see the Group B cars in 1986 at the Olympus rally here in the Seattle area – that made a lasting impression on a kid who was 10 years old! I was hooked and followed rallying very extensively for the next 8-10 years, and could not stop thinking about the Escort Cosworth.

Fast forward to about 2002 – there was a blue one for sale out of California, and I just missed out on it while trying to get my finances in order. Really regretted that for many years afterwards, but it was a small turbo car (I tell myself this was a reason to pass on it!).

Early 2010, it was brought to my attention there was one for sale within a few hundred miles of Seattle, and I made the phone call to see it the next day. Driving down I already knew I was buying it, was just a matter of finalizing the price. Brought it home that night, and have been enjoying it sporadically since then – have had some distractions in my business life that have not given me the time to play like I wanted to this last year, but time is starting to free up.

My car was federalized back in the 1990s, and has full EPA and DOT certificates, data plates, etc. from Sun International. The car has spent time in New Jersey, California, Oregon, and Washington. It has seen some modifications, and relatively low use – it just turned 51K miles

While I have not met any of them face to face, out this way, there is a gentleman up in Alaska that has one, a guy in Northern California that just acquired one a few months ago (the sister car to my car from the last owner), and a guy about an hour north of me that either has 2 or 3 of them. One of these days, we’ll have to get a little West Coast gathering – although to be fair, the Cali guy is 12 hours’ drive, and the Alaska one is 24+ hours, depending on weather….

Hope to start being a little more active in the community, and I am sure I will have some questions for you all as I start doing some maintenance work on the car over the next few months.

    Jason

PS – NW European (my username on here) is my business – I put on automotive events, and do consulting in the automotive and real estate industries. Just did not want to throw off all you actual Europeans.

Welcome So you're the guy that bought that car, I also remeber when it was up forsale (Oregon I believe) but I already had my Ash Black project or I may have bought it myself. If I remeber this is only one of a few big turbo cars brought in by Sun. We need to have an annual North American Escort gathering (ok, so it will only be about 10-12 cars ), but would still be cool. The guy that bought my other car has 2 rallye cars and a motorsport shell.

Hey guys ... I just joined and I am in exactly the same situation as whitneyd, although I don't actually own a Cosy yet.

I am in the US Air Force stationed at RAF Mildenhall in the UK.

I've loved the Escort Cosworth ever since I first learned of it from the Getaway in Stockholm 2 film!!

I recently found out that I will be returning to the states (southern California) in about a years time. I was planning on staying overseas, but now that I am returning I want to buy and import a valuable bad ass car, and the Cosy looks to be one of the best candidates.

I've done some researching online and it looks like the Escort RS Cosworth has already been approved to import by the NHTSA at one time or another. Although, it may need some modifications to meet standards which should be able to be done by an importer. The link below is an approved list of cars.

                      http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/elig101012c.pdf

And this website has most of the info about importing cars to the US.

                      http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/

There is also an approved list of importers. I went to G&K Automotive's website and there is also a lot of good info on their website.

                      http://www.gnkauto.com

I chose them because they are the closest to the location I will be moving to and they seem to specialise in importing EU cars. I did an application for a price quote on their site and I'm eager to see what they come back with.

I will post on here when I find out more.

wouldnt have thought he would be interested in a lowly focus considering all his other cars

I currently live in the boring New England (New Hampshire to be exactly) and I would like to buy a LHD Escort Cossie before I move back to my home country next year.

Please, anyone of the American owners would be kind enough to tell me how much they would sell their cossies, in the hypothetical case they were going sell it ?
