changing a steering rack.

Anybody done it in situ?

How long? Any tips?

Working out whether to do it myself or give it to a garage to sort

can be done it situ think it took me about an hour or 2 last time i changed one hardest bit was getting the wrack off the knuckle

can be done in situ but like most jobs its a bit fiddly

i allways completely remove the knuckle bit then un bolt the rack from the cradle

You have to rotate it and move it sideways to get it out from where it sits. Easy when you figure out which way to rotate and move (I can't remember now).

i've done mine a few times now and if you have aircon like me then it's an arse!!
you have to remove the aircon compressor to remove the compressor bracket as the rack mounting bolt hits it before coming out!!
the rest of it is easy enough..
