  • Delete aero - should I do it and how?

    Evening all

I noticed at the weekend that the bottom of the "pillar" on my whaletale has a large crack all the way round it, and I'm guessing the bottom cm is going to fall off if I remove the spoiler .

Anyhow, I'd been toying with the idea of going "delete aero" as I think it looks a lot more subtle like that - I quite like the look of the ones that have been posted up on here recently, like Kelv's new one. Question is, what's the best way of doing this? Should I source another tailgate or just get the surplus holes on mine welded up?

And for the lower spoiler, do I just get the hole for the whaletale mounting filled, or do I need to source a "delete aero" spoiler?

And finally - can of worms - do you think this is a good idea? Can it be reversed easily in the future?

    Thanks
    Dave

may be better getting another boot and spoiler and swapping it over.

When I had mine I thought about doing the same thing but wanted to be able to change it back anytime I wanted to, so what I done was got hold of some rubber gromets to fill the small holes and then a long bolt with a big washer to cover up the hole left by the whaletail stem.

Maybe not the perfect solution but it would have done the trick

As above. That way your covered either way. If you get bored of the no whale tail look, you can always go back.

if you are wanting to possibley reverse it at any time in future i wud look for both a diffrent tailgate and lower spoiler then if you dont like it you can chop and change or sell the ones you dont like on. if goin delete aero a normal mk5 escort tailgate will be ok you will just have to drill it to suit or even just bond the spoiler on with 3m panel bond or even windscreen bond and it will not move, and regarding the hole in old spoiler yes can be filled and repaired with fibreglass.

on a delete aero car, the lower spoiler still has a captive bolt that goes into the middle, much as you normally have a long bolt that winds into the upright leg of the upper spoiler.

Kev Catt has a delete aero lower spoiler in primer sat in his garage that he will be selling soon, could be worth making contact
you will probably be better off sourcing a spare tailgate aswell, as if you remove the upper spoiler you will then have a few holes at the top edge of the tailgate, which you will have to fill and paint to keep water tight, unless you will find another way to fill the holes so you can revert back at a later date.

all depends if you want to go delete aero and stay that way, or if you want to have the option of changing when suits.

im going to source over time a complete tailgate and spoilers so i can chop and change if i wish to

                Thanks all

Don't think I'll get bored of the delete look, but am concerned it may make it harder to sell when the time comes. The car's a Monte but it's not standard anymore so I guess it's already a bit irrelevant.

Not sure i can be bothered with a separate tailgate as I've got nowhere to store the spare.
