  • How to adjust hydraulic clutch?

Does anyone know how to adjust the biting point on a hydraulic clutch? My biting point is right next to the floor.

sounds like you either need to bleed the system or adjust the push rod on the master cylinder to raise the pedal up a bit .

The pedal is in line with the brake pedal don't wanna raise is up more cause it will be awkward to drive

Is it a centre push system or external cylinder with the arm ?

Only real way is to change the master/slave cylinder to a different size. There are only two sizes of slave cylinder, I found the smaller one to be be the best. Bigger the master the higher up the bite is.

from memory you can get master cylinders in...

            0.625
            0.7
            0.75

I have the smaller of the two slave cylinders and a 0.7 master.

There could of course be another problem causing it, and that might be a wilwood master cylinder. In which case its shit and will leave you without a clutch pedal shortly

If yours is - change it now!! Just get a girling one!!

A top tip if you do have a wilwood master is to check the brake fluid and make sure it isn't silvery grey - it's all the aluminium wearing off the inside
            Cheers, Kev.

Warren, external cylinder with the arm. It's a Reyland kit bought about a year ago .

KJC, everyone else seems to have these kits without problem. The biting point is ok, but I wanna be 100% it's disengaging the clutch as the gearbox is crunching into reverse.

if its a Reyland one the sizes will be fine. Unless the pedal hasn't been drilled in the right place.

Just double check the master isn't a wilwood one, as martin had to stop using them as they had too many problems with them.
                Cheers, Kev.

Thanks mate, I'm sure it's drilled ok. Will have a double check on everything and re-bleed it

Thought the 2wd box does crunch into reverse as something to do with synchro

Col, I thought that as well mate, but with the low bitin point I wanna be safe

Fletch, 2wd T5 has no syncro on reverse, whenever you select reverse, put it into 1st first, then reverse, gets rid of the crunch as it matches the gear speeds

Thanks Will, I have already started doing that will see how it goes with the low biting point and keep putting it in 1st first

what do these figures actually refer to??

I need to custom spec a hydraulic clutch system for my car and no one will help except with a "buy our kit" which is useless when i intend to use a focus/puma master cylinder as theres no room for a conversion kit on the bulkhead. I dont want to buy a kit to throw half away

Warren, the sizes above are the bore diameters of the cylinders.

They are imperial not metric, sorry if that was obvious.
