  • G'day you flamin' galah's

Well I'm here and settled now, have a nice new house, a new car and a great job which I started in December. Weather is usually fantastic although the last week has been raining really hard, weird as it's still really hot though.
It is great over here, people seem very welcoming to Brits in general and I am very happy, I have been whale watching, seen dolphins, turtles, snakes, big lizards, bigish spiders and quite a few red backs
I am renting a brand new 4 bed house on a new estate in a place called Mount Cotton, complete with local wallabies , will buy once I sell my UK property which I currently rent until the market picks up.
As for cars, well I had to buy a car with cash as I didn't have a credit history till I started working so I bought a MKV Golf GTI DSG, which is OK, will hopefully trade in to a Golf R32 soon and then my V8 or if I can stretch to it, the new Focus RS (it's very, very expensive here!!) infact cars in general are very expensive, the Golf was about £17,000 and they are about £10-£11 at home

Sold both cars before I moved over, wasn't as bad as I had feared and don't miss the Escort at all, I do a lot of miles over here and it would have just got ruined so best to sell up and start afresh. It's all about the V8's over here and that's what I will be getting at some point, they all sound so awesome!!
Seen a couple of new Focus RS's which they only imported about 300 of, a few Lambo's and a GT3 Porsche, but as cars are so expensive you don't see huge amounts of super cars like in London for example. The GT3 was black with limo black tints parked in Brisbane CBD, now I like clean cars and this was spotless, and I mean spotless, the reg number DIRT !! very cool I thought.
Rego plates over here are very cool, for a few thousand dollars you can have pretty much what ever you want, so have seen some brilliant plates, one of the Lambo's had PEPSI which was odd. seen things like COOL AS and saw MONKEY on a HSV Maloo. loads of people have their names, and I could have MAT for $2000 odd, if it's taken in another state you can still have it, as plates are state specific too.

I hope it works out - at this rate there will be more people on the forum in Australia than in the UK .

I really can't see how you would want to live in Oz with all that hot weather, beaches, women and sun!!!!

I'm hoping I can move out through my job as the company I work for has Oz depots too...................bit of a long shot, but you never know!!

Looks brill out there and sounds like you're having a great time. I think the next Escos meet should be in your house!!!!
