  • Has anyone ever pulled their chest muscle?

I think I have and its been on going for a week or so, to start with it felt like I was having a heart attack, with pain in my chest and short of breath etc.

I went to the Doctors and my oxygen levels where 99% so as good as can be he said my heart rate was fine, I've also had a ECG and that said my heart rate was normal etc.

Been pretty frightening really, been difficult to sleep and I sort of get a jolt of pain no matter what I do, whether it be heavy breathing, coughing, sneezing or moving about.

The doctor is assuming I've pulled a muscle in my chest as thats what the symptoms seem to be and I've been prescribed some strong Anti-inflammatory's. I read that a ripped chest muscle can take from 2/3weeks to 2/3 months to repair

I had similar symtoms last year and ended up going the hospital one day after work as was in serious pain, they told me it was just skeletal pains or something like that, took about a month or so for it to settle down.

Mate at work also has similar pains too at the moment and he went the docs yeterday and he too was given anti inflammatory's and was told it was probably brought on by his recent cold/flu that he had a few weeks back.

I have got run down recently, It started with a helping my brother move some stuff at his flat and I pulled a muscle in my side that was really uncomfortable, and kept me a awake three nights running and was short staffed so couldn't get time off. I then got what I believe was tonsillitis as my throat was sore and I had a fever etc and its sort of died down and manifested as this chest pain, I don't recall the point I ripped a muscle in my chest although I had been lifting really heavy stuff recently.. its doing my nut in now thou

          sounds about right.

I pulled a chest muscle a couple of times in the last 6 months although that was due to my chest muscles being knackered due to pnuemonia.

If your muscles are already tired, youre more prone to such injuries.

Pulling a chest muscle is a nasty one as all you can do is take the pain. You cant move around or find a comfortable position. The only comfortable position would involve not breathing

I've had pains in my chest since I was a kid caused by muscles, when it happens I double over in pain holding my chest and can only take in about half of the normal oxygen in breathing and people think i'm having a heart attack, I have to stand up and rotate my arms around to release the trapped muscles.

Luckly it does'nt happen much now used to be worse when I was younger.
Went to the doctors a few times over the years but it's just muscles contracting inside my chest around the ribs it just happens to be around the same place as my heart, always scares people to watch I just hope that if I had a real heart attack people would take it seriously

Its reassuring to hear other others with similar experiences.

I guess it just a case of maning up and dealing with it

I had a really really bad chesty cough last weekend and have had similar symptoms to you Paul, chest has felt really tight and I felt like I was always struggling to breath-especially when laying on my back in bed.

It was even worse when I had one blocked nostril

A week on i'm starting to feel like I can take a deep breath without feeling any pain

as long as you eat a diet with meat and dairy in it then you will get plenty of amino acids naturally.
