  • I need a cheap runabout.....

Dont really want to spend more than a grand on a motor to go to work and back (5 miles a day) Realistically something not too old and very cheap to run.

Was thinking along the lines of a 1.0 Corsa C?

Just looking for ideas really, just in case I'm missing something obvious

    Cheers Billy

They run on fresh air though, used to have them at a body shop I worked at and the petrol gauges never moved! Haha!

thats because they were in limp home mode and off the road

1 litre corsas are comeback cars, everyone i know who sells them in the trade has comebacks, your better off with a yaris 1.0 if yer want cheep tax insurance and utter reliability.
but for a decent sized car you can't go wrong with a diesel 1.9 skoda octavia or fabia and they can be bought for a bag of sand !!

Escort Turbo Diesel if you can find one that hasn't rotted away, plenty of change from a grand, they're reasonably nippy and you can actually work on them yourself and get stuff mega cheap. Or a Focus TDDi, again easy to work on and you should get a high miler for a grand. Mine was brilliant, never let me down and nice to drive. Sound like a bit of a tractor compared to the newer diesels but they don't go wrong so much, run forever.
                Cheers

Ive had 4 Transits, Mercedes vito, toyota hi-ace, 2 sprinters, and an astra van to mention a few over the last 10 years

But now i dont work on sites I have no need for a van and the insurance that comes with them nowadays

Not a bad shout mate, just looking at these now. Get a quite clean one for just over a grand. Van isurance might play a part in it though

MK4 Golf TDI would be my choice for a cheap runner.

I'm after a new runaround too, since the 1.7 Puma is pretty much on its last legs I'm afraid

Was hoping to find a MK6 Fiesta 1.25 litre if anyone knows of a decent one somewhere.
