  • Gear Stick Reverse Lift Broken

As in title here is what's left of my reverse lift,

bits have been falling off for a while, but as you can see it is much worse now!

Is this easy to replace and were am I going to find the part? What would you call it?

Is this common? Anyone else had theirs fall apart?

Pull the gear knob off and you will see the little cable coming up through the gearstick itself.
Remove the broken leaver, hook the cable onto the new lever as you push it on and thats it.

As far as I know all mk5/6 escorts have this setup.

are you supposed to be able to select reverse without the lift ring? My car has the cable not attached to anything yet i can select reverse fine.

Same thing happened to mine, i got another one and that did the same, so now i have a quickshift B+M shifter to fit that will cure it.

You're not supposed to so the part on the gearbox cradle that stops you from selecting reverse must be worn or the pin is not all the way in and getting past the "stop".

          Scouse.

Mine did this a couple of months ago.

There is a horseshoe washer that holds the cable in position. This sits inside the bit of yours which has broken.

What you have to do is remove the gearknob. Then remove the centre consule. Turn it upside down whilst attached and cut the tyrap holding the gaiter to the the plastic bit.

When you get the new one you need to attach the horseshoe to the cable. It's a bit fiddly but I used a set of long nose pliers.

The Sapphire 4 x 4 one fits fine. I got one off my parts supplier Richie

thanks for everyone's advice, doesn't sound too bad to sort out if I can get hold of the part!

Has anyone seen one for sale? ebay / here / ford or anywere else?
              What should I ask for?

note sure, although I must have taken it off at some point when I replaced the gaitor.
                      I will check tomorrow.
