  • Bailey Breathers...

    Hi Guys -
    After some help..
Have done a search, and it seems there are numerous threads about bailey breathers, but some of the info seems to conflict slightly..

Mine is currently plumbed as follows (and has been since i've had the car)
Breathing - from the cam cover + flam trap
    Return - un the turbo
Outlet - to under the car...

Now, I believe this may be wrong?
    I think it should be:
Breathing from the flame trap (once removed), and under the turbo
Return - to where the flame trap return currently is
Outlet - remains under the car

    Is this right?
What do people then do if they want to keep the flame trap, but still have the breather? I'm thinking i'll just get a bit of quip made up for the retun, and plumb into the sump plug, as thats how my old car was set-up.. (and it retained the flame trap)
    Thoughts?

second part is right way(Breathing from the flame trap (once removed), and under the turbo
Return - to where the flame trap return currently is
Outlet - remains under the car)...you could pass also with the flame trap in as you wrote but if you
have time and will remove it......

      Ive allways gone for -
cam cover and flame trap to the top two on the breather bottle , retrun ( at bottom of breather) to under the turbo and the big bottom hose on the breather to atmosphere.
I bought one brand new years ago , fitting it as the bailey instruction stated and just did the same ever since

Personally I'd blank up the cam cover breather, have the 2 top pipes on the Bailey breather to the kidney box and the port under the turbo, larger Bailey port underneath breathing to atmosphere and have the smaller pipe as a return to the sump (but a boss needs to be welded to it).

ive never used the exhaust side one as a return as its constantly under pressure so needs to be a breather on there then return to orig sump pipe once the flame traps removed

Yeah - thats how its plumbed in. but i've got a nice new crackle black cam cover that doesn't have a hole in the top, and dont want to take a drill to it - also, at some point (when the engine comes out) i'll be having my wrc breather fitted, so don't want to have to buy another cam cover

Seems like you guys agree with me then - good to hear i'm not completely mad!
Think i'll go ahead with what i was going to do then - seems that'll be the simplest way fo doing things - just means yet more money to spend on the car Agree a boss being wedling into the sump would be best, but if i'm doing that, id just fit my wrc breather... - this'll do in the meantime!
Least the car will be semi- done then...
May actually start a thread in the resto room - prob about time I showed some pics of what i have I guess!

If you take away the flame trap, then you can use the oe oil return and don`t have to weld a plug on sump.

Yeah - think i'll see how much of a twat it is to get off, as thus far this car has been lots of fun and games when i've wanted to do anything to it!!!

assuming the engines still in the car then get a big screwdriver under the flametrap and give it a whack upwards
