    Question..

When using ford coilpacks ala mondeo/zetec how is it triggered? Rising or falling edge?
    Dwell time for this?

I'm using a msd zetec style coilpack and two cosworth ignition amps.

    Thanks for any info.

    Noone?

Surely you must do this with pectel etc...

90% of waste spark cosworths seem to be running this coilpack..

I think it is triggered from crank position sensor. Have this setup from MSD and apart coilpack, two amplifiers and loom it have small electronic device added in to ECU.

I know it's triggered from the crank seonsor with the phase to sync, I need to know wheter it's a falling or rising edge that trigger the ignition amp..

In moment I try too aplicate a KDFi/Megasquirt on my ST, I dond know ift helps, its the function from the EDis. And i think its the falling edge. Because there is only one toth missing. For the Dwel time, I've no idee, some coilpacks with Chips insie do it on thee own.

I've looked at that. I'll just have to try.

Dwell is around 2.5 ms afaik. Thanks

              try http://www.bigturbo.co.uk/

should have all the basics on how the engine sensors and ecu drive the coil.

Fuck me.. I've been on that site dozens of times without noticing. Cheers Warren!!

Falling edge (-ve) is the most common used, for the zetec coilpack you want 3.6ms of dwell at 14volts

                    Cheers.

It seems like the marelli ignition amp fires on a rising edge according to the bigturbo webpage

The 5 volts trigger signal on pin 25 of the ecu to the cosworth marelli driver fires the plug on the FALLING edge.
Dwell starts on the RISING edge

                      The bigturbo site is incorrect

Just to double confirm the above...

I have hand written notes of the time I used an oscilloscope when I designed my own ecu and the MSD Coil pack adaptor and verified my comment.

I tried searching the net for official datasheets but this is the best I could find and clearly shows the control signal (2) "falls" to fire the plug.
This data isnt for the cossie but it is the identical ignition module used so is valid

The PDF file where that info came from is here ... http://italperf.nazwa.pl/temp/IAW_4WF.pdf

                          Bloody excellent!!!

I was hoping you'd come along! This made it alot easier.

Is the dwell time above correct? Have you got the full rpm dwell table perhaps?

No I dont have a dwell table but that time is about right
The module does control dwell all by itself to a point but if you have too long dwell times from the ecu, the heat sink will get very warm.

Just a word of warning... Driving these modules you must have a proper signal ground

You can drive the input with a 5 volt signal or an open collector driver as the module supplies a bias voltage if you understand that.

I'm using a ViPec so there's plenty of options. I'll PM you if I need ny more help if that's ok
