      READY !
So after spending the rest of Wednesday sulking as the Cos failed to make it to the

docks ,i looked at the entry list for the Eifel Rallye Festival which made me decide to

go in the Fiesta as i did not want to miss all the Group B loveliness being driven HARD.

Off i go to Dover once more on Thursday after ditching alot of the stuff needed for 18

days away as it is now only 4 days away.

My transport for the weekend with junior Montes fitted

After a easy journey via Spa circuit which had the 24 hours race weekend on so

couldn't nose about very much .I got to near Daun,Germany and slept the night

in a quiet spot ready for Friday morning .

I turn up in Daun early [7am] and walk straight into the service area to be greeted by

      some East European commie cars

Basically the service area was completely open to the public albeit with security guards

with not very ferocious dogs patrolling. So i walk about a quiet service area with almost

all very expensive rally cars out in the open taking pics of just about every car.

Then at 10am an autograph session started so i queued up ,in an already long

queue and finally get to the front

Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Waldegaard .In the programme i bought there was 2

pages showing the star names entered and i got autographs from all of them

EXCEPT Walter Rohrl as he is considered to be God like in Germany and i would

have had to queue up all over again in boiling heat just for his signature.

So it's off to the 1st stage. On the way there i had a surreal moment when i see a

RS200 casually stopped in a side lane at a roundabout and then a minute later

another RS200 coming down the road the other way.

As you can see not all "conventenial" rallycars but it didn't stop the drivers from

                  giving it the beans.

Excellent pics, bet you had a great time.

At most events that i've been to in Germany, the pits are normally open to the public, even some stages too. Usually there is no charge to get into the service area.

Opel Kadetts were popular on this event but most were driven sideways so

                      whats not to like ?

As you can see from the dust it was lovely and hot and sunny.

THEN it rained REALLY hard with massive thunder n lightning and nobody had

any weather protection The stage was stopped/cancelled and we had to

get completely soaked to the skin walking back to the now boggy field car park.

Some got stuck, one bloke got pushed out of a muddy hole only to immediately

get stuck in another.I made it out by carefully selecting my route.

I was directed down some lane and it turned out to be the route to SS2 so parked up

and walked to SS2.The weather had finally turned out nice again so with a change of

clothes i was good to go.

Some of the Porsche RSRs were awesome to see and the noise is brill too

Alfa Guilia caught and passed by a Lancia 037

It started to get dark so photo taking stopped for me as my compact just

doesnt produce good night pics of moving cars so no pics of the RS200s and

the 3 door as they all started well down the order.

I was surprised everything was so open .If it had been in Britain there would have

been all roped off n stuff.I was allowed to just wander around unimpeded.

well done zeb............i love in the pits on continental rallys ,the buzz of the cars and foreigners is sonthing you don't understand if you never been and done it,also the smells from the catering unlike greasy burgers here they have great smelling food so thats nice and the cars...........well its why i like foreign stiff because its different, theres some really rare cars in the above and in europe its easier for them to get there than trek here so its probably a good rally to go to if your a retro lover.

i'd love to go there in me mk1

Day 1 finished so off i pop for some kip.

It throws it down again about 11pm ,massive electric storm.

Day 2 and off to stage 3 and only a short drive there.

After a bit it starts raining AGAIN and i have to walk back to car to get my coat

just as the Lancia Stratos goes by and i miss getting a pic

I stop taking pics as i don't want to ruin my camera with water getting inside it.

It stops raining and then the camera stops working, water HAS got in so back to the

car i go a bit peeed off,i start the engine and hang the camera over a heater vent

and luckily the heat disperses the damp and camera working again.

Anyway i am soaked again, not quite as bad as previous day but had already ran out

of dry shoes [2 pairs soaked] and the walk back to SS2 was waterlogged and boggy.

So off i go to find some undercover amusement, which means car museums.

First drive down to Velaine-en-Haye just outside Nancy,France and a bit of a

disapointing place but it was only 5euro entrance. They did have this though

                                and this

a rare ,1 of 21 Porsche 356 Carrera Abarth bodied.
