  • hydrolic center push cluch

recently had problem with my old girl, car will select gears up and down but wont drive it sits reving up, cluch pedal went hard as same as the brake pedal feels.
has reyland hydrolic kit and uses tilton centre push.
wen i got the gearbox from elite they forgot to acount for the adapter plate from box to bell hoiusing wich was 19ml, ive now got a spacer fitted to make up the 19ml wich was short die to elites balls up
car has been fine had a good run down to see paul linfoot to have it valued and was faultless, as with all other times its been great. but otha day it fooked up and not sure why. me and jus removed the box today and wen all bolts wer off we had to prize the box away from engine with a bar- it felt like sumthen was holding it on
wen got box out evryth looked fine, cluch, cover and plates all spot on, centre push bearing looked ok, box wud select gears fine and turns shaft each end.
we measured from thrust bearing to blokface and got 78ml, then measured form cluch springs to blokface and aslo got 78ml wich wud asume no play on bearing?
wtf has happend any ideas or help.

sounds like the clutch jammed up in the pressed position, that would let you select the gears and no drive, when u let the pedal up for the 1st time it will of filled any excess up on the cylinder and now that will be at full travel making the pedal hard

either a over push or faulty clutch/bearing mating up, cant say without being there when you did the removal
the bearing may of been stuck out on clutch and retracted on pulling the box out

not saying it is that but seems a good possibity

Wenny what clearance do you have with your bearing to clutch? I have 4mm but when measuring gaz's he had nothing.

Also when the bearing was out and we tried to push it back, it did jam up if it wasn't 100% straight when doing so.
My centre push is different to gaz's as its spring loaded so always runs on the springs.
May be it wants a different type of centre push?

mines a pain in the arse mate, to muchclearence and you cant ge a gear, and not enough it runs on the bearing wearing it out, as i found out. you have to take into account the heat expansion and how much the cylinder might alow you to hang on
what clutch and centre bearing is it, also have you asked elite what they think

wenny its a tilton centre push bearing and has had new bearing wen box was fitted, uses tilton cluch cover and plates and AP cluch plates. had a look at centre push bearing today and to me its that wots at fault as sometimes wen it reaches the end of its travel it gets a slight wobble on and jams makin it hard to return as its no longer seated flush in the housing.

possibly is that mate, when its at full travel locking up and holding the clutch on and would explain hard pedal but the loud clunk that shudderd the car has me puzzled, maybe a gear jumping out

yeah gear jumping wud probs explain the clunk as box is quite harsh on changes, me and jus are tryn ti work out exactly wot tilton centre push and bearings used so can replace them, seems a mix and match of bits so far mate.
