You need to either be an owner or "known" in the community and vouched for by another member because you are considered to bring something to the forum.
its basically to prevent thieving scumbags having dead easy access to the resto forum where if your a thief, you have plenty of opportunity to eye up the expensive modifications and work out if the car is worth tracking down.
Also by limiting the non-owners it prevents the forum going down hill like some other car forums have done due to lax moderation.

I think it is right only escos owners see this section, too many cars have been stolen due to forums and this is a good way of filtering the bad. Not saying your bad btw. But a lot of thieves search these forums and cars go missing. :-(

as the lads have said above, the primary reason is to stop the theives and give the member confidence that they can post is relative security.
The other side of the argument is "well its an escos forum", but then we are a victim of our own success there really due to the friendly nature and helpfulness of all the members on here

I think the big good thing about the whole site is that you can be vouched for.
If like me you originally owned your first ESCOS before the word "forum" had been used on the computer, sold it years ago then sat on the fence, loving them, talking about them, looking at them but not owning one (and perhaps had one before some members on here could even drive) then you can still interact all that is required by being vouched for.
Its a shame other car forums like Piston Heads etc dont have some sort of private owners sections. I mentioned it on PH a few years ago ang got PF stlye abuse.

i'm reasonably well known on quite a few ford and RS sites and attend most shows. i have an 8k deposit on a known car that i've agreed to collect around feb/march time (only waiting due to my lack of storage atm) i'm desperate to see the rest of the site too but will bide my time the same as everyone else has had too
