  • A537 Cat and Fiddle speed cameras

does anyone know how the SPECS average speed camera system works up there??

The camera posts have a camera facing each way.

Are they set up like standard specs cameras and film the front of the car with the second set being for the other traffic lane, or are they more advanced and can catch a rear photo too???

ie if my front plate fell off one day by accident you would be fine??

They clock average speed, I've nailed it on the straight from Congleton that meets the main road a few yards away from the pub itself and never had any worries come through my letter box

I think SPECS read the way they face only i.e. you need two or more cameras facing same way to get an average speed.

Well they read on both sides don't they, coming towards them reads your front plate. They read average speed by having more camera's every few yards.

i heard years ago when the SPECS first came out that if you swapped lanes then they could not get you.

think it was well known that who ever designed them fooked up.

Dave I used to use that trick when I did lots of miles on the A14 and never got a ticket, I was always going fast fast enough I should have got one. Then they said they had fixed the glitch which I didn't 100% believe and still don't, but I removed my front plate to make sure.

All very good but have you now noticed the digital camera facing the rear number plate to catch lorry tailgaters and the lane changing trick. You will see it at every set of SPECS cameras, a little camera 100 yrd before you reach the specs facing toward the specs. If you remove your front plate the specs computer throws an error code which is checked against the time line of the smaller rear facing digital camera. They have you no matter what.
If you just want fun and not going anywhere in a rush , at least you can speed with specs, you just have to do some maths and work out how slow you need to travel to make your average speed meet the required limit for that area.
Accidentally wander into a the first specs camera at megga speed, then pull over and wait, get the average down before you pass through the second set of specs

on the way to Croft last year i got nicked for speeding on the m62 near Leeds where the SPECS cameras was positioned, got done for doing 59mph in a 50 zone however it was by a policeman sitting in a camera van on the bridge between bridges....never got chance to see him .

if the SPECS cameras work then why should he be there.

me, got busted for doing 57 on the m180 through some tempory road works that had been fitted out with average speed camaras, which as i recall had a sign of some description saying," speed limit in force to protect workforce....." it was half ten at night - no fooker was working!!!!!! our lasses uncle is a traffic bobby, he once told that if you changed lanes it didnt work, now if the traffic police were aware of this it was bound to get fixed, i do think though they are like fixed speed camara, ie, not on all the time, just certain times of the day. sara's uncle also told me that lincolnshires tolerance was 10% plus 2, ie, 50mph plus ten percent = 55, plus two =57!
chuffin annoying to say the least cos now i've got to go on a driver awareness course and listen to someone waffle on for four hours for the princely sum of £95 cant wait!
                            one for the road?? ......
