  • Exhaust knocking, what can I use to stop.....

it from vibrating on the gearbox?

my car has the T5 box with a mongoose exhaust, at certain revs and coming down the revs the exhaust rattles on the gearbox housing... Can I just put some heat proofing stuff around it in this location?

Or can anyone else think of a better solution... dont really want to remove the exhaust if I can help it

    thanks

    Mark

You don't have to remove the exhaust, just loosen it from the turbo, move it to where it doesn't touch the gearbox, then tighten

Sarcasm, it's the lowest form of wit (I should know)

You'll never get it to not touch the gearbox if you don't move the exhaust.

I made my old ESCOS rwd for about a month then put it back 4x4. I had a 4x4 Mongoose exhaust fitted and I couldn't get it to fit correctly . It would catch the box as it went across from one side of the car to the other just behind the ARB. I tried all ways. I had to heat the pipe up and oval it slightly , even then it was a bitch
However, going sideways all the time made my undies too brown too often so it went back 4x4 and had to make the pipe round again.

not being sarcastic Dave, I thought it would be taking it off and putting a bigger bend in it or something, just adjusting it seems alot better to me

As dave says or slightly dint the section if it won't adjust. ?

Wrapping it will only take the noise away but it's still going to be touching!

Strange if its the back of the box, its all a bit tight at the front but further down is usually ok.
You might have to undo the U clamps as well as the turbo clamp and twist them to get the best positioning of the pipe. Remember you dont have much movement at the front as the down pipe has to clear the chassis leg and the front prop so clearance is very tight.. When you move the pipe too far to the left the down pipe will hit the prop and if you move the pipe too far to the right it rattles against the chassis leg. If you lift the pipe too much it will touch the bell housing.

His front prop is made from pure air - So hitting it won't be a problem

lol ....so it is..... that will make it a bit easier for him ....lol
It still wont be that easy though, as with a t5 mine still touched the bell housing. If the pipe was twisted to lower the section that crosses the box then the down pipe would hit the chassis leg.

I'd say he's having issues because the 2wd exhaust runs down the drivers side of the car, rather than the passenger side like a 4x4.

Is there a 2wd system adapted to fit the ESCOS these days Paul It would save some long term problems if there is
