  • Wiring oil pressure sensor to IECS

Can anyone confirm if I need to wire the existing OP sensor direct to the IECS (ie using the IECS inbuilt sensor ground) or can I get away with just using the existing wire which used to go to the banana pod OP gauge and the existing earth (ie via the car chassis).

    Thanks
    Dave

Well, I'd say it all depends on the accuracy you'd want to attain

The problem using the chassis earth is that when you're pushing hard, a voltage across the chassis is created (as it is not an ideal 0ohms wire), therefore the reading could be a bit off.

But if I remember well, on some pressure sensors your sensor's earth is directly connected to the chassis, right? Or are the two contacts available and isolated from the chassis?

It would be very interesting to try the two ways and see how big the reading error would be.

A word of caution (for the electrical experts here), please avoid creating ground loops through the IECS.
What i mean by that is to avoid having one ground going through one IECS GND connector and going out by another.

so would you say it would be ok to use standard sensor, without any changes/mods if it was wired direct to the IECS?

I thought the oe sensor was diff to the one required to run the iecs monitor

On another note, where has everyone mounted their screen?

Escorts can use the OE item (providing it is disconnected from the banana pod gauge). You only need a stand alone item on the other Cosworths, which don't have a VDO sensor as standard .

When using the OE VDO sensor, most put them in the banana pod for a factory style finish :

After all the work I have done in fitting in the vents, I may well move it to the banana pod too!
