  • General Question - B&M shifter

Are these worth having, I have heard good things and bad about them
    so opinions please
Also how hard are they to fit, does the gearbox have to come out?

you have a couple of options in trying to achieve it with the box left in situ.

the first one is you need to find a mechanic who is the son of 2 very talented people, one being a Contortionist and the other being a magician, and only if he has gained the super abilities of his parents then he will be able to do it for you.

or failing that you would need to be inside the car with an angle grinder and 'enlarge' the hole in which the gearstick comes thru the tunnel.

so the moral of my waffle is..... take the gearbox out

but id most definatley go for the small knuckle thats obtainable thru Mike rather than the full B & M shifter setup.

U take away the rear beam that holds box at the rear end of the box and let it hang down a bit, then u remove the console inside and the ruber around the stick etc, then u got some parts that i dont know the english name for but its a ring that holds the stick in the box that u take out from the inside of the car the car, then its a pin? that u take out from under the car.Love my b&m and i didnt remove my box.

Same on both of my Escort's. Both with B&M's, both no issues.
Ohh except an annoying rattle on a customers one we fitted. Soon rectified though, with a bit of electrical tape between the 2 shafts. Turns out it was a vibration picked up through GpA engine mounts.

I've done one before by taking the prop off and dropping the gearbox mount then tilting the engine backwards, its a fiddly job but it is possible without removing the box

B&M are crap IMHO, proper gearbox wrecker Have had a couple before, I think personally they are overpriced tat. And they rattle, yes it can be fixed but why should you have to fix a brand new part? .... Got a £35 Mike R quickshift knuckle and never looked back

never had a problem with the b+, quickshift, yes the dreaded rattle but thats just the lift up spring inside, just wrap the spring in a bit of tape and job done

takes about an hr to fit with gearbox in situ

they are expensive for what they are, but a hell lot better than std, but i had no choice in the sierra as when i put it in 2nd the std gearstick would hit the handbrake
