  • Best suspension set up

Ok this has probably been done to the death on here but seeing as I've just started using it I'm going to ask anyway. I did do a search but couldnt really find what I was looking for

So on my escort I'm looking to get some new suspension, I currently have konis. I'm looking for a decent level road setup, my car will never see a track, looking for something that's not overly harsh on the ass but doesn't feel like a canoe!

So what do I get, where do I buy it and how many pennies should I spend on it???

Well I have been going over this the past few weeks myself asking everyone on here and other retailers about suspension setup's as i was in the same boat as you and from what i gathered there was a choice of 3:

1st: Black Art Design Coilovers, B.A.D available from Mike Rainbird on here @ RandB motorsport, then can be spec'd as you wish for a nice road setup and were 1600 pounds the last time i asked

2nd: H&R clubsport coilovers, also can be spec'd the same as the B.A.D ones, these were 1069 pounds.

3rd: Koni adjustable shocks with the Ahmed Bayjoo springs, this seems to be the most spoke about setup for the road if your not tracking the car and the springs are also available from Ahmed with slightly lower front springs to retain the original cosworth stance only, the cheapest way of doing this is ordereing the springs direct from Ahmed Bayjoo himself at 160 pounds and buying the Koni's from Larkspeed @ 412 pounds delivered.

I have just went for the Koni setup and will be fitting it in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed its as good as they say, hope this helps mate, currently i have the cheap Avo coilovers on mine and the word shocking is being pretty generous.
Ive opted to also replace all the arms, powder coat all the suspension components and fit Powerflex poly bushed all round, slightly pricey but im guessing the bushes haven't been replaced in many places so they will be in need of some new life, hopefuly this will tighten the drive up and will be on the hunt for a nice back road.

        The BADs are £1500 .

For a road car, the Konis and Ahmeds can't be beat IMO.

Nordschleife, there's only two barriers to worry about - the ones on the left and the ones on the right .

Cool, cheers for that, the BAD setup is a bit steep for me, meant to say that I'm using 19" wheels with 35mm tyres, will this make any difference???

I doubt you would get these to fit with Konis without modding the damper spring cups like this:

That's what I was thinking I know my current konis are very close, would coilovers be a better option then???

Coil-overs would give you more clearance, but for a road car, I'd still do the above.

You can do that if it is close, but the above has been chopped, welded and repainted.
