  • Hpi check query

Need a bit of advice, looking at getting a new daily run-about and have found a nice Bmw 320i Msport.
I did a quick text hpi check and it came back saying:

Possible damage Cat D, but due to a plate transfer this requires further investigation.

I have spoke to the owner who has had his plate on this car and others over the past 10yrs, he said one of those cars was written off and the Cat D is linked to the plate rather than the car.

Never come across this before, anyone else had something similar? Is what he's saying possible? I'm happy to pay out for a more in depth check if what he's saying is true.

    Cheers

    Adam

I'm 90% sure it will be the car that is cat d not the plate! I put my plate on a cat d r32 years ago and before the plate went on it showed up as a cat d but when my plate was on it came up with the car may be a total loss but as it has undergone a plate transfer further investigation is required

I had something similar when I was buying my escort when I did a quick check on my phone it brought up some kind of stolen recovered issue I was gutted but when I did a full check and spoke over the phone with the hpi I was told it was on a private plate at some point and the car the plate had been on since was a merc that was stolen so was ok in my case

Do a proper HPI and see what it brings up. I have had a car that came up as total loss on a text check and totally clear on a proper HPI report.

Just had a call from my mate who's a sales director for VW, he has called Hpi for me and they confirmed that the Cat D was linked to the plate not the car-so I'm off on a road trip!!
