  • FAO Mike R... regarding RB320 ownership...

    Hi Mike,

I seen a photo you posted which had the above car in your garage.

Got any pointers when looking for these cars? Found one with 100k on the clock... although this is alot do these cars handle it ok?
Do they depreciate much or at all?
I want something like the Escort but less hassle and seen one of these in passing and got me thinking

    Thanks

    Mark

Hi Mark lovely cars come with nice leather big brakes better 18" wheels and all the usual sti bits the 6 speed box can handle 600bhp standard my mate runs 630 on one .
But personally having owned drove both I much prefer the 2.0 and if you find a late jap spec 2.0 there more reliable mine ran 400 on a standard engine (some are running 450-470)and never had a problem

Also I could not pay £400 to tax a 2.5

Are they expensive to get to 400bhp? 600 on standard box

Don't think it cost me a grand fuel pump injectors front mount intercooler and a ecutek remap the jap spec ones are quite rare but come with fully forged blue printed engine twin scroll turbo and centre diff control so are very well spec'd to begin with.
Yea he runs 630 on a standard jap 6 speed box there pretty bullet proof

Matt, been hearing stories of piston rings going and HG? This is on cars with under 40k and standard power...?

Yea that will mostly be the early 2.5's they had quite a few problems and are £400 a year to tax if you do want one like I said stick to the 2.0 and try to find a jap spec one and you won't go far wrong there are so many different versions though its mind bogling perfect one for me would be a sti version 8 Jdm widetrack you can tell these apart as they have small rear arch extensions.
