voltmeter gauge question

Hi guys.

Went to take the Cossie out last night and noticed the voltmeter gauge was moving around a fair bit.
At idel it seems to be ok the needle staying in one position.
When driving the needle drops a
Fair bit then back up again and the drops then the needle goes higher.

I've checked whats going into the battery which is 13.something

The water levels on the cells of the battery were a bit low so I have topped them up this morning.

Any ideas why the needle would move around so much ? As this is something I've never noticed my car do before.

could it be a dodgy connection from the volt meter to battery, or is it telling you your alternator might be on its way out

most places will do you a free battery and alternator test, so at least its free to eliminate one thing
