Noisy floating discs - doing my head in!

Hi all

I know that in the past there have been threads on this and one thread in particular likened them to a skeleton wanking off in a biscuit tin! But mine are driving me mad now I have taken monsters advice and fitted some fibre washers to help quiten them down but they are still so noisy that every bump makes them clank. I have tightened the bolts to 14nm as per francos helpful thread on here and that doesnt seem tight at all

Have i put the fibre washer in the right place???



I know its not tight in the pic but they are all torqued.

What else can i try??????

Not easy to do round town and some roads i use sadly, especially on my work route.

i've had the same problem for the last 2 years, only on the nearside, the off side hasn't made a noise. I just recently put new AP bolts and bobbins in and it stayed quiet for about a week

Had floating discs on front and rear of mine and yes it sounded like a bag of nails but they worked well and if I was you I would just spot worrying about them or get smaller discs that don't need to be floating

I don't know the set up of floating discs on a car but my racing motorcycles use a stainless steel crinkle washer behind the fastening as in this photo, when the disc rattles I just replace the washers

Had a big brake setup done for my Ferrari by BG developments, I gave them some Alcon monoblock 6 pots, the front hub and a wheel and told them to make them fit

They supplied the disc which were 370 mm floating, they said they were going to be noisy but i said thats ok.

Well this was 3 years ago and i have only just finished the car after a 7 year resto, on the first test drive i thought the front wheel were loose !!! they were that noisy

I have done just over 500 miles now and they are driving me nuts, i thought there has got to be a fix for this so called BG up and asked if they have got a fix, to my surprise they said yes they have a spring clip made that fits behind the disc which stops the rattle, i ordered a set but i have yet to fit them, but they look like they will do the job.

I Dont do smaller dunc. I dont worry i just find the noise aggravating at low speed.

BG Developments are very helpful, they are only down the road from me so use them quite abit.
