  • T4 Turbo

    Hi guys,

I'm going to fit this setup soon:

    T4 hyrbid turbo (A/R .70 compressor and A/R 68 turbine) and 44mm external wastegate.
Together with a suited manifold ofcourse.

The thing is, i know it will need a lot of headwork to flow more air the T4 can deliver... And i will be up for the job, but right now, my old T34.63 stock turbo died (bearings) and i need a replacment item..

Soooo.. i figured, why not put this setup on, a map to suit and just run about 0,7bar boost untill the big engine work can be done in a couple of months..

Would it be OK to drive it like that? (further specs are: RS500 cooler, wrc multilayer gasket, ARP bolts, MSD 380+ chip, 3" exhaust,..

Love to hear your input on this guys!!

I put a t4 on my saph std engine and it made 430 bhp. Went like fuck to lol only thing I had was a 500 intercooler.
      Thanks Mark.

Yeah It can be done, just needs a good map and set up, I prefer them on air injectors really at this sort if spec.

Been there and done it with a RB T4 and it was not all that, what you need is a Borg Warner EFR twin scroll and it will boost up better than a t34 with much more power. Do it once and of it right is what I have learnt

Correct, Just about every hybrid turbo I have seen have been junk and can never match for all round performance of a correctly chosen standard turbo.

Sorry to jump in, but could you use a BW EFR turbo with standard manifold or does that need to be twin scroll to match?

It doesn't fit and needs either a complete new manifold or a new link pipe. The manifold makes a massive diff.

To make a t4 work well you need to spec the engine very well, yourmStd comp is good, but cams, headwork, inlet manifold and the biggest thing cam timing will make or break a t4 engine.
I personally wouldn't put that turbo on your engine, even for a stop gap as it will be lazy, flat and pretty boring. I also wouldn't suggest using that chip so the cost of a map to suit is needed. Hope this helps
