  • Powerflex bushes and refitting front TCAs

My car is (very!) slowly going back together. Just fitted purple powerflex bushes to the inner end of the front TCA but now struggling to get the TCA back into the subframe. Any tips? It's a bloody tight fit.....

    Thanks
    Dave

undo the anti roll bar from the body, get the tca's in and then jack the anti roll bar up till it lines up with its mounting holes.

Thanks for the suggestions (especially Scouse ). I was just trying to fit the first side so didn't even have the arb attached - was going to get one arm in first, then attach the arb into both arms (but without attaching the arb U clamps, then fit the other tca.

So what's the best method with a ratchet strap? What / where do you wrap it around?

                Thanks

Last time I did mine I think I connected one end into tca loosely then the other side and finally used a jack to fit the arb clamps to body.

here is a pick of how I did it once with a bit of rope.

use a spanner or something you can slide inside the rope without taking it it, as you rotate the spanner the rope tightens pulling them together.

If it is tight because you are fighting against the ARB, then remove it from the body via the two mountings and slacken the two retaining nuts on the TCA, then the TCAs normally fall into place. Uae a large punch to align the bolt hole.

Once the TCAs are bolted in the ARB is easy enough to fit back on.

Make sure you have both front wheels off the ground, or the ARB will be under tension, ive seen a few people try to do one side at a time and it never works out very well
                      Regards James.

Dave, that's called a "French Twist" or something similar. Used that idea a lot in the Army!! Only problem is if you let go of the spanner.......spins pretty fast lol

                          Gaz,

that's why you slide it so its longer one end and jam it in under the steering rack....as in the pic.

James, that was my first reply to this thread lol.
