  • Idling Speed

I need some help regarding my idling speed on my st model please.

Starting the car up from cold, the car is idling at 1200 - 1500 rpm for some time before it will drop down to 900 rpm. Once the car is warm the car continuous to idle at 1200 - 1500 rpm for some time before it drops back to 900 rpm. Sometimes the car will idle at 2000rpm and it will not drop down to 900 rpm

If I disconnect the the multi plug from the back of the ISCV the car will idle nicely at 900 rpm.

I have removed and cleaned the ISCV, removed the throttle body and cleaned that up, the throttle body flap is fully closed when the car is idling as well. I'm unable to find any form of air leaks in the system.

Is it possible the ISCV needs replacing? or is it something else.

...probably the tps set up..try to play with it once you slack the bolts :icon_smile

What is the best way to set up the TPS, I'm assuming I would have to remove the throttle body to do this.

you dont need to remove the body out just slack the bolts on tps...and than check with multimeter between pins 11-17 with ign.ON
THROTTLE CLOSED: 0.1v between pins 11 and 17.

THROTTLE FULLY OPEN: 5.13v between pins 11 and 17.
        should be something like that.....
or at least slack the bolts and move the tps up and down and you will hear he rpms going up/ down, when you move it down it will raise the rpms and when you move it up it will lower the rpms...
        Good luck

Thanks for that, Just to make sure i'm correct the TPS is on the opposite side to the throttle linkage, if so mine is held in with 2x screws and not bolts. So I will have to remove mine first to slacken off the screws.

As I have never touched an ECU on an Escort cossie, i'm not sure of it correct location.

ECU is in passenger side footwell.

Gents please tell me what the hell I'm doing wrong, I just connected the multi meter to pin number 11 & 17 on the ECU turned on the ignition and I was reading 11.98 volts, with pressing the throttle down I was still reading 11.9 volts. Any help to make sure I am connecting the multi in the right area would be great please.

try like this..stick a voltmeter in the middle wire (use a tin pointy thing so you dont destroy the rubber seal in there) on the tps (other to ground). it should be 0.2 v or lower on idle and go up to close to 5v at full trhotle...mine is 0.25v on idle..just checked..
