  • Supra Diff Rebuild?

Finally got a supra rear diff with the needed 3.9 CWP

My MK Motorsport conversion kit is on its way.

Have you guys been having the diff's rebuilt? Or have you just been cleaning them up, and putting them straight on the car?

    Thanks

Upto you mate, but I wouldn't put a 20 year old diff in my car without getting it checked over, but yous pays your money and takes your chances.

Put it this way, if you put a cossie diff you bought second hand in, chances are it needs an ultimate rebuild. These don't require that, as 9 times outta 10 they are bang on. But its worth getting a health check by Bara. But he also purchased a few rebuilt kits I sourced from Weir Performance in the States to rebuild them at a very reasonable price to make it even more bomb proof.

Personally, mines still taking the abuse without a full rebuild

try it first imo , not a big job to remove and get looked over after ,
but it ll most likely leak oil from the harden seals,
kit from weir is only £40/50 if you don't need bearings, (mines did nt)
how much was bara charging and what was included in the price?

It was around 800 for the rebuild from bara.

No doubt it will be a bomb proof diff once bara has rebuilt it.

800 will be the price if it needs the bearings replacing.... Which are quite expensive per side

                          Here's the price break down:

1 x Service & Rebuild Axle Inc Setting Back Lash £200
1 x Reset LSD to 100 Pounds Feet Inc Shimming Gears £50
                          2 x Side Seals £15 each
                          1 x Pinion Seal £15.50
                          1 x Solid Spacer £45
                          1 x Max Grip 1-£55
                          2 x Flange Studs £2.50 Each

                          Total £400.50

If you need a bearing kit on top that'll be another £240 but my bearings were mint.

The bearings are huge, if yours are worn i'd say that diff has had a very hard life or poorly maintained.

Think i'm going to get mine rebuilt just to be on the safe side.. At least then it will be mint.. hopefully it wont need bearings tho.

As said, expensive bearings, but they should hardly be shot because they are mahoosive and strong. So basic rebuild using the pinion spacer makes it even better. But seriously, best mod for a cossie hands down!

                              @ Turbomook

If they are, then I'll source you another diff Even a 3.7 to use the bearings from that
