  • Speedo cable help

Hi guys. My speedo needle has been bouncing all over the place and was sometimes 20-30 mph out so decided to get a new speedo cable. Thought I'd bang it in today so pulled the clocks out and detached the cable from the back only to find I didn't have a big enough spanner for the diff end.

So, with it being a nice day I plugged the cable back into the clocks and set off to my mates to get the right size spanner...lo and behold...the speedo worked like a dream!

Having the cable here tho and to be honest, the old one was looking a little worse for wear, I decided to bang the new one in anyway. Guess what...
Now it doesn't work at all!

Any thoughts on what I may have done wrong? Was gonna put old one back in if I couldn't sort it but when writhing it out if the bulkhead the cable stretched and so is useless now. Got this cable from eBay from burton power (item no 151293049144) so doubt the cable is the wrong type.
Any help as always is greatly appreciated. Paul.

Bit of an update. Got the cable working and after 18.6 miles, the cable has snapped clean in two behind the clock end!

This cable was only £18 delivered from burton power. I went to ford, and they wanted £80!

Is this what I should go for? Is there a high quality cable available? Should a 500bhp car have a super duper speedo cable? Can anyone help me on this matter? Got trips down to Scs and ford fair coming up and would really like a working speedometer! Please. Anyone?

cable is cable, in this case is a luck issue.
it is good to fill some grease or oil into new cable

have you kinked the cable or something? its easily done if you just shove the clocks back in without pulling the slack through the bulkhead

It looks like the cable snapped where it had kinked. The burton cable is too long...I think I'll be going to ford for a bending over.
