  • buying a house in scotland

I have a dream I want to buy a cheap rundown property in the middle of nowhere for the purpose to retire too or if my shop fails I have a property to run to

Where and how do I do this, I heard it's not the same as England?

I am thinking maybe outer hebrides or skye or maybe far north mainland

Don't they operate a sealed bid process, in which you make an offer and await the response (or that could be auction ones only).

But basically if your offer is excepted you have to buy or pay the fines, unlike in England where nothing is agreed until exchange of contracts

            i like scotland

if you go to glasgow on the train and watch out of the window as your coming in its like a wake up call.

theres gaffs in scotland and tha same in wales that have loads of land and your neighbours are sheep and mountains, my mates mum and dad moved from chester to the foot of clocaenog forest in nirth wales and have loads of land and now live the rural life.

i still would prefer grand canary or tenerife where the weather is hot all year round though

Don't move up here, go abroad!!!

Scotland is pretty in the summer but a nightmare in the winter.

I'm in the north east and there is not much to do, at least in England you are close to the airports for cheap flights abroad, there are more bands play in England than up here, all the theme parks are in England, cars seem to be cheaper down there. I personally feel that there are much more opportunities down south but thats maybe because i live up here

In saying that i do feel that we suffer less from violent crime but it's getting worse up here

I love Scotland... some of the best scenery in the world ... right on our doorstep... unbelievable how many people havent seen it !!!!

we stay right up on the Moray Firth just above Inverness.... wicked.

I think Scotlandshire people under estimate their country and take where they are for granted....

agree here, im in aberdeen as well, not much car stuff up here, usu a 800 mile round trip for shows & track days!!

go abroad, thats what im going to do, when i sell up

oh & the property prices are on a dip at the moment, but usual very high, plust you have to go at least 20% over asking price , pay for a survey as well

I like Scotland too, stayed there a good few times. Best time we stayed there was in a cottage just outside of Fort William looking straight out the front window to Ben Nevis. We used the cottage as a place to sleep mainly and just went out early doors and drove all aroiund the Highlands, up to Skye and even John O Groats. Was a class week. I love the place. Always said Id like to retire up there

you can deffo get that in wales and its closer than scotchland.

my mates mum and dad don't have water, electric, gas etc they have to fetch it and have a genny and burn wood, the bills are cheeper though and you need a land rover to get there as its very rural. the last owners used it as a weekend bolthole from the city life.

Phil which area exactly? There will be an online property sales site. Would have to be West Coast or even up above Inverness in the wilderness
