I have converted my 4x4 cossie to 2wd, leaving the 4x4 stub shafts in the front to hold the hubs together. The car runs 18" Comp MO's in the correct offset, and 215/35/18 tyres, and Koni conventional shocks/springs. The car has always been fine with wheel/tyre clearences, but recently I have fitted adjustable TCA's ,and a new wheel beaing on the nearside.
On taking it to get tracked up at a 4 laser wheel alighnment centre, there was a burning rubber smell. I put it down to the tyres scrubbing as I drove due to being so far out trackwise without a set up...
Turns out the nearside wheel is sat tight against the Koni spring platform, and has eaten a good 1/4" deep and 1/4" wide groove out the inside edge of the tyre :w all:.....
Is it possible to fit a wheel bearing incorrectly enough to cause this? Can't see it being the TCA's as they do not alter the distance between the wheel and the shock leg, only the distance to the lower subframe mount changes....
