  • Painting brake pipes

Hi guys, anyone that's painted their brake pipes, what did you use. I've now painted the underside of my car and clean the brake pipes down and they're in really good condition. I'm just wondering whether I can get away with hand painting them on the car (they're all unhooked down the length but not at the froint) rather than spraying them and risking overspray on the car. Anyone done this before rather than using a can, what did you use, and how well did it turn out?
    Cheers
    Trev.

I'm just wondering what to use Bobby?

I've got some Metalprotekt I think it's called in a can but I'd prefer to do it with a brush. Maybe it's time for an E-BAY trawl.

Are you doing anything else with yours now, or is it all done and finished and just enjoying it.

I just got some Hammerite stuck in my arm hair and its dried and it was a git to get out. I've now got a bald patch on my arm!
      Cheers

Did you paint your brakepipes Bobby? Mine are in such good nick I wonder whether to just rub them down and give them a bit of a clean with metal polish......can't decide.
          Cheers

No Trev, made new ones out of copper pipe which i like the look of so just need to rub up with some fine wire wool if they tarnish. If they are steel if think they will need painting mate.

Hi trev, i painted mine when i did my resto. Brake pipes were green and fuel lines were silver. They were linished down first with a wire wheel on a drill and then rubbed very smooth through 3 grades of glass paper. They then had 2 coats of etch primer, 2 colour and then 2 clear, i have gone way back through photobucket to find you a few pics below......

              Hope this helps

think its forest green if memory serves me. Take them off Trev, youll regret trying to hand paint them in place.

Yes, maybe I should take them off. I've done the ones that sit on the rear arms already, and they came out well....something to think about.
                    Cheers
