  • Cigarette smell in car purchased from dealer, what can I do?.

    Afternoon guys,
I purchased a 57 plate seat leon fr for the wife a couple of months ago as wanted her to have a safer car to take the baby around in.
She won't drive it as it smells of fag smoke!.
When I viewed the car at the dealer it smelt of smoke, I stipulated one of the provisos of buying the car was it needed to smell smoke free.
When I picked the car up it had been Valeted so smelt fine, a few days later in the heat it stank.
I took it back as the EML light came on and also because of the smell, the Valeter had another go but I was told he could do no more than use a febreze type spray on it.
Car was ok again for abit but now it's back again!, if I leave a jumper in the car over night it stinks the next day, I'm deffo not putting my 10 month old baby in the car.
To be fair the dealer has been good up till now, but can I do anything else?
About to ring them again now as EML has been on and off and also going to ask about the smell again.

    Cheers for any advice

I did buy one of the special chlorine tabs from a detailing shop which worked well but it still came back!.
My parents have an industrial steam cleaner so thought about that on the cloth then another chlorine tab but don't see why I should waste my precious time!

Anything from fag ash in the steering column to just inbred smoke will cause it.
You can get it 'fogged' by a detailing company that will help with roof lining etc, but get a company that knows what they are doing and not someone using Halfords sprays.
I'd still go back to the dealer and ask for the above until you're happy

my local valetting experts aka the albanians use a odour bomb and throw one in and shut the doors and leave it while they put there bets on,it basically totally smokes the whole inside and neutralise's the stinky odours.
my mate bought a old giffer partner the ones with side windows and it reeked of dogs,no amount of valleting would get rid of the smell of dogs arse so it had 2 odour bombs chucked in and wallah it was fine

An open can of paint with the windows shut on a hot day or over-night should help...

Get your hands on an ozone generator and pop it in the car, depending on the volume of ozone emitted depends how long it will take to clear. We use them in properties where people have cooked with all the windows shut. It can penetrate and smell but be warned in high doses it's dangerous.

In not sure if that's what I used? Meant to put signs on the windows etc of the car!
Just ordered a dekota odour bomb so will release the can and see what happens!

oh yeh i forgot, one main dealership i worked at sold loads of daihatsus to farmers and well some farmers reek of shit like, anyway sometimes with swappers we would have to take the full interior out and jet blast the carpets or even replace the whole interior before retailing the vehicle again
