  • General Car insurance??

Ok so been looking into audi tt's as my Mrs wants one and i just lost the argument epic which I hate to say....

The tt is a group 32 insurance!? Wtf??

So this begs me to ask the question have groups gone up if so what are our cars classed as now as I have Googled it and come up with nothing!? Only that they were group 20 as I already knew from years ago.....??

If so does that mean a 500+hp car is cheaper to insure than a hairdressers car!?

our cars are classed as classics now I think that's why they are cheaper.

I think there are sub groups now, someone in the know will confirm.

I'd love to know how it's worked out:

              1999 VW Polo 1.9 diesel valued at £750 = £295

              1991 Saph 4X4 Cosworth valued at £10,000 = £251

              2001 Porsche 996 Turbo valued at £23,000 = £294

It is cheaper to say the car is parked on the drive rather than in a locked/brick built garage...

              Go figure that one out!

The japanese import market effected the insurance grouping's and they are now mainly rated 1 - 50

eg; a uk subaru impreza would be a lower group than an imported one.

However most specialist insurers don't use vehicle groupings. most are based on BHP and experience.

So my question is Paul a tt is higher to insure than a escos? is the escos still deemed as a grp 20*

Not sure if its the same in UK, but here its all down to statistics on the different cars. If that particular car model has been involved in lots of accidents and/or thefts price will increase. The Escos is cheap as they are mostly locked up nowdays...
Insurance is a strange business, I drive over 30000 miles a year in my car (not the Escos!), I have full NCB, no accidents whatsoever, yet the price increases every year. Even though the value of the car is getting lower as the mileage increases on it.
So clearly I'm paying for the mistakes of others that cant drive but have the same car as me!

Yer I gather how insurance works and has changed for us so to speak,,,

My main question is why is a tt 32 if a escos is 20??

And if the classifications have moved upward due to the introduction of the import market!?

It's only groups I'm interested in really just as I never knew we it had even risen to 50 u til yesterday I thought it was like 20 then obviously super cars a few higher....

maybe older cars are classified in the older groups generally, then stuff from the past 10 years or so uses the new groups. So a TT isn't necessarily in a higher group.
