First off XP is a very good OS if it's not broken don't fix it.

The only other OS I would use is win 7.

I would download and install super anti spyware and let it do a full scan as you might have some malware software on there.

Only use the free version that's good enough.

            http://www.superantispyware.com

I use this and it's spot on.

Sounds like you have / had some malware, you could try using something like malwarebytes (https://www.malwarebytes.org/), problem is with most of these anti malware programs is they sometimes find the bad files and remove them but don't always find the / fix the registry entries that are created to run them when you boot the computer up (hence the error messages), and they won't find something that was only invented yesterday by some kid on the other side of the world, by the time they have written a definitions file that can deal with it its too late, you've already been infected!

Go to Start menu, select Run (or press the Windows Key and R on the keyboard), then type in: msconfig (then press Enter or OK button)

Go to the Startup tab, then look in the command column for your "c:\Program Files\Search Extensions/client.exe", un-tick the box in the startup column for that line then click apply, then reboot and it *should* not give you the error message.
