I've looked into buying the equipment and getting it running to see whether the club funds could cover it and still make a small profit, but doing it this way we'd need to sell many hundreds to make it viable and I just can't see us being able to shift that volume of mugs (that was purchasing a cheap heat machine as well)
Surely most would want a picture of their own car on the mug, which would create a lot more work than its worth for someone organising a group buy.
Must be plenty of companies that you can email the picture you want on it, and they'll send you the finished mug for a ok price?

That is the exact case, there are places where you can get a printed mug with your own image for £4.99 in postage.

Absoluitely Jan, if it was to be done then we'd have to offer any picture within reason.

It does seem a fairly easy process, however I'm sure there would be an element of wastage until I got the hang of it, but to give you an idea of the costs involved when I looked at it last week,

        Quick rough costs would be
        £90 for mug press
£99 for 108 mugs (could probably get them cheaper)
        £9 for 100 sublimation sheets
£4 for tape for sheets above
        Total Cost £202

Based on 100 mugs it would cost around £1.12 to print (plus a bit of printer ink as well), so if we sold 100 mugs at £3 each we would make £98, then we’d need to charge postage on top at let’s say £4 recorded per mug, but it starts getting an expensive mug then.

I've even missed out things like boxes to wrap them in etc... so that little bit that would have gone into the kitty has now vanished

Its something we should look into for next year, I've also been asked for personalised mouse mats which we may be able to sort.

not knocking the idea at all, anything that can help put money in the kitty so we don't have to rely on people's generousity are always welcomed. I do believe in giving something back in return for any donations received.
Just a shame that sums didn't quite stack up with the mug idea.
