Whats a good spec for 500bhp ish?

Engine spec ive gone for is...

    Ported & polished head
    Squirters
    10 long studs
    Pec rods
    Cosworth racing pistons

    Wasted spark

What cams, turbo & injectors would be good for this? Or whats peoples specs that have acheived around this?

Who's building it for you, that'll be the best way to know whether or not its spec'd correctly and will achieve the power you're after safely and not a total dog to drive

Agree, being in a similar situation myself the consistent 'best' way is to speak to the regular reputable tuners and see who will be doing your mapping/final set up and work from there...

Im no expert but from what I've heard rods are capable of big power (700 bhp) and only need changing if engine is super high miles... pistons, also consider what compression ratio and if going for cams ensure they have valve cut outs.

Turbo... again so many options new school seems to be Borg warner (7060 will be best for that power and minimal lag).. speak to mark shead re this.

Injectors.. depending on management again and whos mapping for example if aftermarket some ecu allow both high/low impedance meaning loads of options but some are also restricted like the standard management in which case I think siemens is the best way to go..

I've had experience with Karl Norris for all weber related stuff and can recommend him and his builds aswel as Stu at MSD who done one for a close friend of mine..

Currently im going down EFR route with mark shead for similar power and most likely his Emtron management..

      Hope That helps

        500bhp spec

        Same as myself.

        Im going:

Good stock 200 block, pocketed Mahle pistons, knife edged st/st crank, 6 studs, 26-25 head new guides etc, WRC breather, big wing baffled sump, MAD cams, EFR 7060, tubular mani, emtron - vipec ecu setup.

        Spec r cooler

Whats the reason for the knife edge crank mate, sureley ar 500bhp crank should be good in standard form?
Pistons do have valve cutouts and compression is yet to be confirmed, looking at gt3071 or gt3076 with .63 or .82 ex housing but keep hearing mixed reviews about lag and how much power they will make, can anyone shed some light in this? Ive heard good things only about bogwarner efr's but there looking at been mega bux with the twinscroll manifold aswel

Illbe on standardmanagement so siemens 57's (i think) or 83lb's looks like they will be the most ideal

Rods wise, i had the choice to get rid of standard and go forged, my engines in for its 100k build so i thought id be refreshing as much as i can.

Ive spoke to different tuners and they all say oposite things really some reccomend gt30's & some reccomend t38's or ball bearing conversions.

Probly looking for something cost effective and tried and tested done to death almost. May be a bonus if all of you's are going bw efr's as there will be lots of gt30's coming up for sale as they become the new turbo of the moment

I honestly don't know how people can say they are not laggy and still useable at 500 with a GT30 on. I'd stick with a T34 if it was me. Heard good things about T38's but not driven or sat in a car with one.

Before some says theres something wrong with spec on my car I think theres something wrong with you

Just a personal preference i guess, bit weight reduction and friction on the crank, it all helps then to be balancing.

              I will go 8.1 comp

Id like to go EFR as most say its night and day difference, yes a lot of ££ but things have moved on, new ecu and loom can only help with electrics reliability.

The big thing is budget really. EFR turbos are good but the cost of the manifold and wastegate etc it ends up costing a good amount.
Where you could achieve similar results with a gt3071 for half the cost if that. it's all down to the individual really.
Your engine spec sounds good, a nice pair of cams and you will be well away. Injectors I'd reccomend 83lb Siemens as you can still get them

I've only ever been in one car with a T38 and i thought it was crap

The only thing sim would be max power and nothing else. The gt turbo cannot compare with lag response to a Efr as it is night and day diff.

Please go in another, they are very good, you must have been in one that's been poorly set up?

Compare it to a Efr and they are average.

Is it just the figure you are interested lol or drivability.

What will the car be used for mainly?

                            Dave.

A bit of both really id admit. But this will give the best of both world with high 400's. Im 21 so figures are quite important but it was finding a ballance of drivabillity and figures
